On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Congressman Al Green released the following statement applauding the passage of the 2021 NDAA:

"Today, I applaud the House's passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY2021, which funds many of our nation's military needs. I am pleased that this year's NDAA -- which passed by a 335-78-1 vote -- includes my amendment providing for a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study of the marketplace for cyber risk insurance, particularly as it impacts small businesses," said Congressman Al Green. "This study, to be conducted by the Comptroller General, will assess and analyze the state and availability of insurance in the U.S. for cybersecurity risks. With so many stressors on small and minority businesses already, and the rise in cyber threats -- including crippling ransomware attacks -- striking businesses of all sizes, this study and the insights it will yield are imperative and timely."

"At its conclusion -- no later than 180 days past the enactment of the NDAA, the Comptroller General would submit the study's findings in a report to Congress with recommendations regarding appropriate federal intervention with respect to cybersecurity insurance. This critical information will enable legislators and policymakers to understand the scope and scale of the cybersecurity risks, as well as what insurance products are available to protect small business owners, their livelihoods, and those of their employees."

Congressman Al Green added, "I thank my colleagues Congressman John Katko (R-NY), Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), and Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) for their bipartisan support of this amendment. Each year, the NDAA is one of the most important pieces of legislation Congress must pass to maintain national security and support our nation's servicemembers. I am proud to have worked with my colleagues to improve and pass the FY 2021 NDAA. I look forward to its enactment."
