Echoing Previous Calls, Harris Urges Counties to Re-open Schools Immediately

Press Release

Date: Jan. 3, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., is again urging the counties across Maryland to open schools immediately following President Biden's CDC Director stating that data illustrates vaccinating teachers is not a pre-requisite for safely opening schools. Congressman Harris has championed re-opening schools since last summer, pointing out the greater danger to children from the seasonal flu than coronavirus, and the growing belief that children do not transmit the COVID-19 virus easily to adults.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

"Once again, data continues to support schools can immediately re-open safely. It's time for Maryland's counties, and the parents whose children are suffering, to stop balking to the teachers unions. Science does not support the argument that schools can't re-open, and our students don't deserve the sell-out so many jurisdictions across the nations are going forward with by bowing to the will of unions who won't accept scientific indications contrary to their views."
