Congressman Tim Ryan Accepts Vice-Chairmanship for Defense Appropriations Subcommittee

Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today accepted the Vice-Chairmanship of the Defense Appropriations subcommittee as the new roster of members was named by the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Additionally, Ryan was appointed to the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee and reappointed as Chair of the House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee -- which oversees the Capitol Police and will investigate the U.S. Capitol security breach that happened on January 6th.

As Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee's Legislative Branch Subcommittee, I will continue to drill down on the failures that led to the horrific breach in our national security on January 6th so they can never happen again. We are elected by and for the people, and it's critically important to me that our federal spending reflects the priorities of the hard-working Americans I represent," said Congressman Tim Ryan. "In my positions on the Energy and Water and Defense subcommittees I will continue to advance the interests of working-class Americans and those who courageously defend our country. As northeastern Ohio continues to moves toward more advanced manufacturing and the production of electric vehicles and batteries, I am confident my new role on the Energy and Water Subcommittee will put us in the position to secure the funding needed to guarantee Voltage Valley remains a leader in energy and jobs of the future."

As Chairman of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee--which controls funding of the Legislative Branch of the United States government, including spending on the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressional Budget Office, Library of Congress, Government Accountability Office, and U.S. Capitol Police-- Ryan will oversee a budget of $4.2 billion.

The Defense Appropriations Subcommittee controls $694.6 billion in spending and funds the U.S. Department of Defense, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Central Intelligence Agency, and other intelligence agencies.

The Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee controls $49.6 billion in spending and funds the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, civil areas of the Department of Defense and Corps of Engineers, as well as the Department of the Army.
