Foster Statement on President-elect Biden's COVID-19 Relief Plan

Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the emergency relief package announced by President-elect Joe Biden:

"It's clear President-elect Biden will waste no time delivering additional crucial economic relief for the American people and launching a comprehensive plan for efficient vaccine distribution so we can finally defeat this pandemic.

"Initial vaccine distribution by the Trump administration has been disappointing and inadequate, and it's especially frustrating after scientists developed a safe and effective vaccine in record time. The American people deserve a competent strategy to get vaccines to communities across the country, and that is what President-elect Biden's plan will do.

"We also need to provide more relief for hardworking American families and small businesses that are still struggling to make ends meet. I support President-elect Biden's plan to provide additional direct payments, extend enhanced unemployment insurance, extend the moratorium on evictions, bolster funding for childcare, and supply additional resources for small businesses. Instead of being obsessed with the stock market like the outgoing President, President-elect Biden understands that building back our economy begins with small businesses that are the engines of job creation in our communities.

"It is reassuring to have competent leadership returning to the White House. I am ready to get to work and help pass these measures through Congress without delay."
