Statement

Date: Dec. 17, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Tonight, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on President-elect Biden's nomination of Jennifer Granholm as Secretary of Energy:

"I congratulate Jennifer Granholm on being nominated to be the Secretary of Energy. As a former governor, she has the experience needed to oversee the Department's thousands of dedicated employees whose work is critical to our country's national security and technological capacity. She is a proven leader and advocate for renewable energy technology, like the research into advanced battery technology being done at Argonne National Laboratory, that will help transform our economy and is essential in our fight against climate change.

"The next Secretary has a lot of work to do to help return our government to competent, science-driven leadership on American energy policy, nuclear nonproliferation, and the support for our nation's national laboratories. The labs drive the research that will fuel the next generation of American innovation, as they have for decades.

"As a Member serving on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee who represents Argonne National Laboratory as part of my District - and who spent 24 years as a high-energy particle physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory - I have a deep commitment to the men and women who make our national labs the global leaders that they are, and I look forward to working with Secretary-designate Granholm to make sure they have the federal resources they need to do their jobs."
