Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), released the following statement on the death of Officer Brian Sicknick, a twelve-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police, who died in the line of duty in the attack on the Capitol on Wednesday by violent, pro-Trump insurrectionists:

"My heart is broken following the tragic death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick," said Rep. Kaptur. "Officer Sicknick was killed in the line of duty defending our most precious temple of democracy and the lives of countless public servants barricaded inside. Officer Sicknick will always and forever be remembered as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in the face of a violent insurrection threatening our democracy."

"Officer Sicknick was a 42 year old military veteran who served on the Capitol Police force for 12 years and is the fourth member of the Capitol Police to be killed in the line of duty since the force's founding two centuries ago. We owe him unending gratitude for his ultimate sacrifice in protecting the U.S. Capitol and those inside both in peaceful times and during this insurrection. My sincerest condolences are with his family, friends, and brothers and sisters on the force during this extraordinarily difficult time."
