Larsen Statement in Response to Oil Train Derailment in Whatcom County

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, issued the following statement in response to the oil train derailment in Whatcom County:

"I am concerned about the oil train derailment in Custer, WA. I worked closely with the Obama administration to create strong rules to make the transport of oil by rail safer. Clearly there may be more work to do.

"Thank you to the first responders on scene working to assess the situation and to keep communities safe. My staff are gathering more information from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Governor's office, Whatcom County Emergency Management, BP, and BNSF Railway. I will continue to monitor the situation and await the findings of NTSB's investigation."
