DelBene Calls for Trump's Impeachment

Statement

Location: Kirkland, WA

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) issued the following statement supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
"This week was one of the darkest in our nation's history. For the first time in over 200 years, an armed rebellion stormed into the U.S. Capitol with the goal of stopping Congress from carrying out its constitutional duty to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

"Most alarming, this violent mob was actively encouraged by the sitting President of the United States. When Congress pleaded for help, he did nothing. Nothing to protect the full legislative branch of our federal government, nothing to protect his own vice president, and nothing to protect the presidential line of succession.

"President Trump violated his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. He is an active threat to the nation as long as he remains in the Oval Office. The Constitution allows the vice president and the cabinet to declare him unfit for office using the 25th Amendment. I support that action. Those officials have so far failed to step up and do what is right in this moment.

"Congress is left with no other remedy than to impeach President Trump for violating his oath of office, failing to enforce the laws of this nation, and for committing high crimes and misdemeanors by actively inciting an armed insurrection against Congress, a co-equal branch of government. It is never too late to do what is right and hold power accountable. I'm calling on the president to be impeached, removed immediately, and barred from holding federal office in the future for the good of the country. This national nightmare must end."
