Recommitment to Servicemembers & to American Values: Statement on Biden Repealing Transgender Military Service Ban

Press Release

Date: Jan. 25, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) issued the following statement today regarding President Biden's welcome repeal of Trump's discrimination against transgender Americans, banning them from serving in our military:

"I applaud President Biden's commitment to all young Americans willing to put their lives on the line in defense of our county by ending Trump's self-defeating, shameful discrimination. This policy will encourage young people like my former intern Tegan Debrock, who was kicked out of ROTC at Texas State at the stroke of Trump's pen, and like Map Pesqueira, a junior at UT Austin, whose military scholarship was revoked. I agree with Map, who is already seeking to return to ROTC, that today's action sides with freedom. Merit will triumph over prejudice."
