Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on $2,000 Direct Payments

Statement

Date: Dec. 28, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to provide Americans with $2,000 direct payments:
"While the coronavirus relief bill becoming law is welcome news, President Trump's delay in signing held up vital assistance, including $600 direct payments and unemployment benefits to millions of Americans. The president's inaction made an already stressful holiday season worse for Michigan families and small businesses.

"I strongly support $2,000 direct payments to Americans. Democrats have consistently pushed for higher payments, but Republicans have for months opposed larger stimulus checks. As millions of Americans this holiday season struggle to put food on the table or keep a roof over their head, Congress must do more to provide relief. Democrats and President Trump support $2,000 direct payments--now Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell must allow for a vote on this relief immediately."
