Pelosi Statement on Hacking of U.S. Government Agencies and Corporations

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the hacking of U.S. government agencies and corporations:

"The news of the significant and far-reaching cyber-attacks targeting United States government agencies and corporations is further disturbing evidence that malign actors, including Russia, remain intent on undermining our national security and democracy.

"Sadly and alarmingly, the Trump Administration has for four years turned a blind eye to Putin's attacks on our American democracy, including his ongoing efforts to attack our election systems and undermine faith in our democratic institutions.

"In stark contrast to Trump and the Republicans, House Democrats have taken forceful action to defend our democracy from foreign attack, including through the SECURE Act and SAFE Act to protect our election infrastructure and the National Defense Authorization Act and additional legislation to provide tough sanctions against bad actors.

"Working with the Biden-Harris Administration, the Congress will take strong, immediate action to secure our nation's infrastructure and digital defenses against these attacks. The era of impunity for our adversaries' assault on our democracy is over."
