Gibbs Named to NDAA Conference Committee

Press Release

Date: Nov. 19, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

On Wednesday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) announced Congressman Bob Gibbs (OH-7) as outside conferee for the bicameral Conference Committee on the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021. Gibbs is the Ranking Member for the Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee's Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee and the only Republican conferee from T&I to be named as NDAA conferee.

After naming Gibbs to the Conference Committee, McCarthy said:

"Passing the annual National Defense bill is one of the most important responsibilities Congress has and for that reason I hand-selected Bob to serve as one of the conferees to spearhead this year's conference. Bob's entrepreneurial experience, his commitment to establishing a strong national defense, and love of country make him an exceptional choice to help get this year's NDAA past the finish line. He understands the needs of our troops and unique challenges of our national security. I know with Bob at the table, we will have a defense bill that our troops both need and deserve."

Congressman Gibbs said: "The United States Coast Guard plays a unique role in national security, serving as a law enforcement entity on our nation's coasts while also providing critical support for our Armed Services. As the Conference Committee considers the NDAA, we need to make sure the needs of our Coast Guard personnel and the equipment requirements to execute their mission are prioritized. This especially includes the need to strengthen the icebreaking capabilities of the Great Lakes region. I look forward to working with my colleagues on further bolstering our already strong national defense systems."
