Sinema Urges Administration to Quickly Disburse Critical Funding for Arizona Families' Energy Costs

Press Release

Date: Oct. 15, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema urged the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to quickly disburse already-approved Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding that assists families facing financial strain with their energy costs.

"Quickly releasing energy assistance funds keeps everyday Arizona families and seniors safe at home and provides critical support to Arizona families facing financial challenges during the pandemic," said Sinema.

LIHEAP assists Arizona families with home energy bills, and weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs. Sinema's letter urges immediate disbursement of these already-approved federal funds to support LIHEAP, which helps Arizonans stay safe from the risk of health and safety problems arising from unsafe cold and heat. Given the financial strain of the coronavirus pandemic and backlogged unemployment and utility assistance in Arizona, the number of Arizonans in need of LIHEAP will increase. Quick disbursement of these federal funds prove more critical now than ever.
