Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congresswoman Robin Kelly's legislation, as part of the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act (H.R. 4447), to reauthorize a grant program supporting local governments as they improve building energy efficiency.

"When it comes to energy efficient buildings, the government should lead the way. However, improving energy efficiency isn't just about "going green,' it reduces overall operational and maintenance costs, which save taxpayers money," said Congresswoman Kelly. "Through this grant program, we can support local government as they build or rehabilitate buildings to lower energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions."

Through the program reauthorization, Congresswoman Kelly's bill more than triples the programmatic funding for the five-year period. Kelly's legislation was designated as H.R. 2119 and reported out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in July 2019.

This bill is the third authored by Congresswoman Kelly to be passed by the House of Representatives in the past last two weeks. The other bills were her bipartisan Solid Start Reporting Act (H.R.7477) and bipartisan Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act (H.R. 1668).
