Crist Statement on President's Tweet Ending COVID Relief Talks

St. Petersburg, FL -- U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-FL) released a statement following President Trump's tweets kicking further coronavirus relief talks until after the election, leaving millions of workers, families, and small businesses in Florida and across the country without the relief needed to weather the dual crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and an economic emergency.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Congressman Crist has fought hard for bold relief for the American people. Earlier this month, Crist voted in support of the Updated Heroes Act, legislation which would have delivered aid directly to Pinellas families and the American economy -- cutting another stimulus check, restoring the $600 unemployment lifeline, improving food assistance, expanding small business relief, and much more. The Updated Heroes Act was the People's House latest attempt to meet the Senate and the White House halfway.

"Today, the President has chosen to leave millions of families, children, unemployed Floridians, and struggling small businesses behind -- failing to make a deal for the American people.

"At home in Pinellas, I see every day just how much our neighbors are hurting and just how far relief legislation would go to lend a helping hand. It's why I voted in support of every piece of COVID aid legislation brought to the House floor. It's why I fought hard to make sure families would get another round of stimulus checks, unemployed workers would have their $600 weekly benefits restored, children would not go hungry, and our main street small businesses would get the support they needed to keep their doors open.

"I urge the President and the Senate to reconsider this ill-advised decision that's puts people's lives and our economy at greater risk."
