Much of the requirements and regulations placed on our schools and teachers have overly-burdened our children, stifling innovation and creativity and bogging down educators in a mountain of standardized tests and crushing oversight. I believe that schools should be governed as close to students and families as possible, not by state and federal bureaucrats with no understanding of our district's unique nuances and needs. I have pushed strongly to reduce the testing requirements facing our schools and to keep control in the hands of our local school boards and officials.
In addition, I think it is time to crack down on charter schools that have abused state rules and dollars for their own benefit--at the cost of our children's education. I cosponsored and passed charter school reform because Ohio's students cannot afford to be taken advantage of any longer.
