STEFANIK VISITS FORT DRUM, ATTENDS MOUNTAIN PEAK TRAINING EXERCISE

Statement

Date: Oct. 5, 2020
Location: Watertown, NY

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today visited Fort Drum to witness the 10th Mountain Division's "Mountain Peak" training exercise, which trains and certifies brigades within the division to attend Combat Training Center (CTC) rotations and overseas operations. Congresswoman Stefanik joined Brigadier General Funck and Command Sergeant Major Mario Terenas for the exercise, and to discuss its impact on mission readiness. She also met several troops to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the base and the way that Fort Drum has adapted to meet the needs of their community.

"It is always great to visit Fort Drum to meet with 10th Mountain Division soldiers and discuss the important work they are doing, and it was an honor to visit them during their Mountain Peak training exercise today," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "I was able to learn more about the importance of the exercise for mission readiness and how the brigade is operating in a COVID-19 environment. Our Fort Drum community has gone above and beyond throughout this public health crisis to communicate with soldiers and their families and provide them with the resources they need in order to be successful. As the chief advocate for Fort Drum, I always keep their needs in mind and advocate for our soldiers at the federal level. I would like to thank those at Fort Drum for having me today, and I look forward to continuing to work on their behalf in Congress."
