Senate Democrats Block Additional Small Business Aid

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) blasted Senate Democrats' refusal to provide additional relief for small businesses through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). As Senator Perdue travels across Georgia, he continues to hear directly from small business owners about the success of the PPP and what they need going forward.

"The Paycheck Protection Program has been extraordinarily successful and saved over 1.5 million Georgia jobs," said Senator Perdue. "As I travel around the state, I've heard directly from many small business owners who received these loans and may need some additional help until things get back to normal. Senate Republicans have put forward serious relief packages, but Chuck Schumer and his allies continue to block every effort to provide needed relief to the American people. Democrats are holding this relief hostage because they simply don't want to give this president a perceived victory before the election. This shameful display of partisanship is unacceptable, and the American people will see through it."

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), over 1.5 million Georgia jobs have been saved by the PPP and roughly $14.7 billion in loans were provided as a lifeline to over 174,000 Georgia small businesses and workers across the state. Here are some examples:

Atlanta Pediatric Therapy in Doraville: "Because of the PPP loan program, we were able to keep all of our staff fully employed and not furlough anyone. Keeping our employees employed has also enabled our patients, who are mostly underserved minority children with disabilities, to continuously receive their prescribed therapy treatments during the pandemic." -- George Rosero, CEO

Sweet Grass Dairy in Thomasville: "My husband and I are owners of Sweet Grass Dairy, an artisan cheese manufacturer and restaurant, in Thomasville. The Paycheck Protection Program has provided our business a lifeline.
