New VA Clinic Coming To Columbus

Press Release

Date: Sept. 4, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today welcomed Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie to Georgia, where the Secretary announced the establishment of a new VA clinic in downtown Columbus.

Veterans will be able to receive expanded services at the new Columbus Downtown VA Clinic (CDVAC), which is expected to be completed in early 2021. This is in addition to the Columbus Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), set to be completed in 2022.

"Our veterans have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom, and it's our duty to ensure they always receive quality care," said Senator Perdue. "With Secretary Wilkie's leadership, we have taken historic action to restore accountability at the VA and expand access to care for veterans. Today's announcement of an additional VA clinic in Columbus is welcome news for Georgia's veterans. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I'm committed to fulfilling the promises we've made to our veterans and their families. While we have made some progress, I will continue working to fix the systemic problems that have plagued the VA for far too long."

"Under President Trump, VA has successfully implemented a host of landmark reforms to improve care and benefits for America's veterans. That's why veterans' trust in VA reached an all-time high in April -- up 19 points since President Trump took office," said VA Secretary Wilkie. "The improvements we've made at VA would not have been possible without the help of strong leaders like Senator Perdue, and we thank him for his steadfast support of veterans in Georgia and across the country."

The Columbus Downtown VA Clinic will be approximately 10,000 square feet and include 24 exam rooms and one minor procedure room that will provide space for homeless care, mental health services, visiting specialty care, and telehealth services. The new clinic will also offer five consult treatment rooms and 12 administrative areas for home-based primary care and HUD-VASH program staff.
