Congressman Fulcher Highlights Importance of Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

Press Release

Date: Sept. 21, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

As our country celebrates National Small Business Week, Congressman Russ Fulcher (R-Idaho) looks to the successful work of the Idaho delegation and perseverance of Idaho small businesses throughout this unprecedented and challenging year.

The Idaho delegation has been at the forefront, helping small businesses endure the economic impact by granting loans and supplying personal protective equipment.

In March, Congressman Fulcher voted Yes on the CARES Act, which passed the House and Senate, and was signed into law by President Trump. The CARES Act provided federal resources to small businesses struggling to stay afloat during the mandated COVID-19 shut downs. Under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Idaho businesses have received over $2.6 billion dollars in loans. Congressman Fulcher believes the government has a responsibility to ensure they are in a position to recover and prosper.

In April, Senator Risch, Governor Little, and the Idaho Department of commerce formed The Support Local Gems initiative to keep small businesses afloat, and invite Idahoans to buy locally through less or no contact.

"Small businesses make up the backbone of this country and represent the American Dream in its truest form," Congressman Fulcher commented. "I am committed to making sure they are in a position to bounce back stronger than ever."

National Small Business Week will be hosted virtually by the U.S. Small Business Administration, and hopes to commemorate the small businesses who have remained diligent throughout the pandemic. Those businesses wishing to participate in the conference can register online at sba.gov/NSBW.
