U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) joined Scott Slade on Atlanta's Morning News to discuss how the CARES Act is working for Georgians.

Highlights:

Hearing From Georgians: "I've been around the state over the last few months visiting with people who received PPP loans down in Valdosta, here in Atlanta, over in Smyrna. I was in Gainesville last week at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and looked at how our first responders have responded to COVID-19 and what their experiences have been with the aid they got in the CARES Act and what they need in the next round. I've been at Fort Benning and also at Robins and Moody Air Force Base talking about how they have reacted to COVID-19. I visited the Port of Savannah and looked at the best return of any infrastructure project we have in America right now and spent a lot of time with farmers."

CARES Act Is Working: "What I'm hearing is the CARES Act is working, we need some extensions on certain programs, we need a little more help in our hospitals, and we need some help with nursing. I've got the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act I'm trying to get included in the next relief package. The people of Georgia are helping each other, and we're going to find our way through here."

Finding A Balance: "We're trying to find a balance like we did in the CARES Act. The CARES Act was a bipartisan bill -- both parties had to get together and compromise, and I'm hopeful that we're in the final days of being able to do that now."

Back To Normal: "We're all going to pull together and defeat this virus and eventually get back to normal. I think coming out of COVID-19, the economy will gradually bounce back. It's very resilient. We've had a few wakeup calls, though. First of all, we can't be dependent on foreign sources of supply for strategic issues like healthcare. We don't do it in the military, and we shouldn't do it in healthcare. The second thing is we have to get serious about our debt, or we're going to lose the right to do the right thing in moments of crisis like this."
