Issue Position: Supporting Working Families

Reproductive Rights
I support policies that reduce unintended pregnancies. I would support a national initiative similar to Colorado's Family Planning Initiative. This initiative cut the abortion rate in Colorado by 50% among 15-19-year-old women and 18% among women 20-24.

Colorado's Family Planning Initiative resulted in cost avoidance for programs including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women Infant and Children (WIC), and Medicaid of $66.1 and $69.6 Million.

I believe by taking unintentional pregnancies out of the equation, women will continue their education, further their careers, and choose when to start a family.

Tax Rebates
I support the creation of a federal income tax rebate for working families that do not receive paid family leave.

Early Learning
I believe Congress should be fully funding Early Head Start and Head Start to eliminate the waiting lists for families in urban, suburban and rural America.

I support fully funding Preschool Development Grants to increase quality early learning for America's next generation, along with grants focusing on transportation barriers for rural and homeless children to increase access to early learning opportunities.
