Lou Correa Urges Pathway To Citizenship For Front Line Essential Immigrant Workforce

Statement

Date: Sept. 23, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today, Congressman Lou Correa joined his colleagues on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration for an important hearing on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected America's essential immigrant workforce.

Rep. Lou Correa said, "Immigrants are the backbone of our country. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us just how essential immigrants are to our economy and our well-being. All across the nation, critical jobs that make our lives possible are being done by immigrants--many of whom are undocumented. Yet, even though these taxpaying workers are essential to our economy, they are subjected to constant fear without any hope of relief.

"Today's hearing highlighted just how much we depend on these workers, and how imperative it is that we establish wholesale reform of our immigration laws. Immigrants who come to our country to do jobs others refuse to do deserve a seat at the table. Until all immigrants have access to a reasonable pathway to citizenship that protects them and their families, our immigration issues will continue."
