Remembering the Fallen
Saline Courier
By: Congressman French Hill

On September 11th each year, I honor the 2,977 victims who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and four hijacked planes 19 years ago. September 11, 2001, will forever be etched in our minds and hearts as a solemn day where innocent men and women were killed in what became the greatest attack on this nation since Pearl Harbor.

I remember the days and months following the attack when our country was trying to piece itself together and patriotism shined forth in our beloved nation. Today, with the current public health and economic crisis plaguing our nation, we face a different type of struggle, but we will overcome the difficulties and head towards a better tomorrow. Arkansans are resilient, and our collective love of country, state, and community will carry us through.

As we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, may we reflect on their sacrifice and those of the patriots who have come after them. We will never forget those we lost or the heroism of the brave firefighters, police officers, and EMTs who selflessly charged into danger to save everyone they could. Nor will we forget the passengers and crew of Flight 93 -- unknown to one another -- who put service above self in an act of courage and defiance that saved an untold number of lives.

On the 19th anniversary of September 11, I pray for the families who have lost loved ones and friends who no longer have their companion. May their cherished memories of good times, laughter, and happiness never fade. I pray for the safety and security of the American people and the protection of our armed forces. As always, we stand together against those who wish to do us harm and remain united as one nation under God.
