Rep. Cisneros Condemns President Trump Ending COVID Stimulus Negotiations

Statement

Date: Oct. 6, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) condemned President Trump's decision to stop negotiations on a coronavirus stimulus package until after the election and instead "focus full time" on passing a Supreme Court Justice. The House passed the Heroes Act on May 15th and an updated version on October 1st. The Senate has failed to pass their own coronavirus stimulus bill.

"Families, workers, small businesses, cities, and schools are in desperate need of relief. The House has passed two coronavirus stimulus packages, including one nearly five months ago. Waiting is not an option, and we need to get a deal done now," said Rep. Cisneros. "The President has irrationally reversed course after advocating for a stimulus package on Saturday. His actions run completely opposite of the calls from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for more stimulus to support our recovery and economy. The President has chosen to put politics over people. It's disgraceful, and the American people deserve better."
