Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) applauded the passage of H.R. 4447, the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act -- a package of bipartisan bills that authorizes major investments in the transition to a low-carbon future. It includes programs to develop and deploy renewable energy resources, improve the efficiency of our homes and businesses, electrify our transportation sector, modernize the grid and enhance its resiliency, prioritize the needs of environmental justice communities and reduce carbon pollution from industrial and traditional sources.

"As we continue to face both an economic crisis and a climate crisis, we must modernize our energy infrastructure to grow jobs and protect our environment," said Congressman Norcross. "This bill does just that. It prioritizes clean energy research and development, enabling us to make our communities cleaner and healthier, while simultaneously battling unemployment and COVID-19. These are not only investments in sustainable energy -- they are investments in our future and the futures of our children and grandchildren."

Norcross sponsored legislation and authored amendments that were included in the House passage of the bill:

-The UV Light Amendment that Norcross authored allows grant funds to be used to update HVAC systems, equipping them with air filtration and purification systems, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
-The SMART Electric Act Amendment that Norcross authored creates a rebate program for energy efficiency upgrades within the industrial sector, which will make the manufacturing process more efficient, increasing productivity and improving worker safety, as well as reducing energy consumption and emissions.
-The Offshore Wind Jobs and Opportunities Act that Norcross introduced in 2019 alongside Congressmen Bill Keating (D-MA) authorizes the Department of the Interior to award offshore wind career training grants to institutions of higher education and labor organizations to develop, offer or improve educational and career training programs that provide skills necessary for employment in the offshore wind industry.
