Davidson Votes for Stopgap Measure to Avoid Government Shutdown

Today the House voted to continue funding the government through December 11. This continuing resolution, brokered by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Speaker Pelosi, keeps funding stable until after the 2020 general election and avoids the possibility of a destabilizing government shutdown.

After voting for the stopgap measure, Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH) made the following statement:

"This continuing resolution is an important short-term solution to keep the government up and running, especially after the disastrous economic shutdowns enacted in response to the coronavirus pandemic. It must be noted that had Congress been fulfilling its duty by convening over the summer, such a measure wouldn't even be necessary--we could have already funded the government.

"However, I am pleased this resolution is a "clean' authorization that doesn't increase spending and avoids partisan poison pills. I'm particularly encouraged that Congress will be addressing intelligence reauthorizations in a separate bill that will allow for lawmakers to give the time and attention to protecting Americans' privacy, instead of tacking unconstitutional surveillance powers onto a must-pass spending bill.

I look forward to working with colleagues between now and the December expiration to fully address funding the government and reducing the deficit."
