Brown Announces Nearly $2.5 Million for Water Infrastructure Improvement in Rio Grande & Centerville

Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program has awarded a $1,354,000 grant and a $1,114,000 loan for a total of $2,468,000 in funding to the Village of Rio Grande. The funds will be used to offset costs associated with improving Rio Grande's 84-year-old wastewater treatment facility that serves residents in Rio Grande and Centerville.

"Strong water and sewer infrastructure is critical to Ohio communities' ability to be economically competitive," Brown said. "This funding will improve access to safe and clean water for residents of Rio Grande and Centerville. I will continue to advocate for resources so that Ohioans in small and rural communities have equal access to clean water and economic opportunity."

USDA's Rural Development program provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas by supporting infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.

Brown has been a leader for Ohio's rural communities, successfully securing a number of provisions that are important to Ohio farmers in the 2018 Farm Bill. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
