Brown Announces Nearly $1 Million for Wastewater Infrastructure in Scioto County

Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced a $994,444 investment from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Section 594 Ohio Environmental Infrastructure Program for the New Boston Combined Sewer Overflow Improvement Phase 8B Project in Scioto County. These funds will be used to install critical water infrastructure improvements while continuing to repair the sewage system on West Avenue.

"Strong water and sewer infrastructure is critical to Ohio communities' ability to be economically competitive," Brown said. "This funding will help attract jobs and businesses to the area, while protecting the Ohio River and improving access to safe and clean water for New Boston residents. I will continue to advocate for resources so that Ohioans in small and rural communities have equal access to clean water."

Brown has been a leader in ensuring all Ohioans have access to safe, clean drinking water. During consideration of the 2018 Farm Bill, Brown secured increased funding to reduce farmland runoff into Ohio water and ensured rural communities have access to funding for needed wastewater investments. His Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act, signed into law in January, 2019, provides communities with increased flexibility when complying with Clean Water Act requirements for needed updates to sewer systems.
