Brown Announces More than $2 Million for Rail Infrastructure Improvements in Cincinnati

Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a combined $2,318,515 in grant funding to The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments through its Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program.

DOT Funds for Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments are broken down below:

· $1,235,500 for a project to construct an overhead, bi-directional enclosed conveyer system to transport bulk materials from the Cincinnati Bulk Terminals (CBT), and

· $1,083,015 for a project to design and construct a new traffic signal with railroad pre-emption as well as gates, lights, and bells highway in Cincinnati, OH.

"When our communities have up-to-date infrastructure, it helps them grow and support local jobs," said Brown. "These projects will have a significant economic impact on Cincinnati and across Southwest Ohio."

The CRISI program invests in rail infrastructure, providing more than $56 million in grants to 16 states in 2019. These grants will provide communities with greater accessibility to reliable and efficient rails across the state, while also improving safety measures for freight and passenger trains.
