Byrne Applauds Plan to Relocate Commercial Air Traffic to Brookley Aeroplex

Statement

Date: Aug. 6, 2020
Location: Mobile, AL

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) released the following statement regarding the Mobile Airport Authority's plan to build a new terminal and move commercial air traffic from the Mobile Regional Airport to the Downtown Brookley Aeroplex. Byrne was instrumental in acquiring Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval of this project.

Byrne said: "This plan is welcome news both for air passengers and the local economy. Moving commercial flights to a more convenient location will further propel downtown Mobile's revitalization, make travel more convenient for Baldwin County residents, and provide more economic opportunities throughout Southwest Alabama.

"I have been actively working with the FAA on this issue for years, particularly towards assuring that this move would gain the necessary federal approvals. As we move to the next phase of this project, I will make it a priority to work with the FAA, the Mobile Airport Authority, and other local leaders to secure the 80% federal funding and make this project a reality."
