Senator Santorum Comments on Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings of Judge Samuel Alito

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Samuel Alito:

"As the United States Senate begins confirmation hearings for Judge Alito today, I look forward to a fair and respectful process that results in a timely up or down confirmation vote. Based on his record and background and my meeting with the nominee, I believe that Judge Alito's 30 years of public service have proved him to be a distinguished and unbiased judge worthy of a seat on our nation's highest court. Although I am not a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will be watching the hearings closely."
