Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) provided the following statement today after House passage of the Emergency Stopgap USCIS Stabilization Act to temporarily prevent furloughs by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) by immediately increasing the agency's premium processing revenues.

"I am very pleased to report that, in a rare Saturday vote, the U.S. House of Representatives just passed our bipartisan Emergency Stopgap USCIS Stabilization Act to fix the funding at United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)," Fortenberry said.

"The US Citizenship and Immigration Service has a quiet but important presence in Lincoln, Nebraska. Hundreds of its hard-working employees, through no fault of their own, had received notices of possible furlough due to coronavirus. Working together at all levels of the United States government, today we were able to take another step towards fixing the problem," Fortenberry added.

"We need to continue to protect the important work of this essential federal agency and the good people who work there. The bill now goes to the Senate," Fortenberry said.
