Luján: "We're All Tied" in Mission to Protect Our Environment and Combat the Climate Crisis

Today, Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, joined New Mexico climate leaders on a virtual forum to highlight House Democrats' Climate Crisis Action Plan to address the climate crisis, build a clean energy economy, and create new opportunities for New Mexicans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a member of House Leadership and the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, Congressman Luján played a significant role in developing the Climate Crisis Action Plan. Congressman Luján secured key provisions to establish a Clean Energy Standard to put America on a path to net-zero carbon emissions, put New Mexicans back to work by plugging abandoned oil and gas wells, and make community solar more accessible to lower-income communities.
In remarks from the Acequia de la Comunidad de Nambé, Congressman Luján remarked to local climate leaders, "I'm reminded that we're all tied. Whether it's families that have been here for generations or been here for days. We truly are all connected, and that's what represents the very best of what brings us together today to talk about the landmark work you all have done in New Mexico, which was instrumental in leading to the work that was put together with the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis."
During the forum, Arcelia Isais-Gastelum with New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light shared a letter thanking Congressman Luján for his work to address the climate crisis. The letter, signed by 50 leaders of faith, said in part: "Thank you, Representative Luján, for listening to the growing concern of our people of faith and for ethical leadership on climate justice. Faith communities stand in support and solidarity with the fight to protect the sacred creation for the common good of all peoples and creation."
Participating organizations included the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club, New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light, Environment New Mexico, and Western Leaders Network.
