Capito, Manchin Announce Research Funding at WVU, Marshall

Press Release

U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support research initiatives at both West Virginia University (WVU) and Marshall University. WVU will receive $218,640 for imaging enzyme activity by Overhauser-enhanced MRI, and Marshall will receive $444,000 for heart and vascular diseases research.

"WVU and Marshall lead the way in research capabilities in our state, and prove that West Virginia institutions can compete with higher education leaders across our country. This financial support will move our universities forward, while simultaneously increasing the understanding and capabilities of the health services available in our state. I am thankful for HHS's continued investment into West Virginia, and the increased opportunities this will create for our universities," said Senator Capito.

"West Virginian institutions like WVU and Marshall continue to lead in federally funded research projects. This funding will help with health related research projects that may result in beneficial breakthroughs for West Virginians and Americans. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am committed to helping our institutions get a fair shot at federal research funding and will continue to support programs that help our state," said Senator Manchin.
