Stabenow, Peters Announce Over $14,000 in Support for the Sherman Township Fire Department

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) today announced that the Sherman Township Fire Department will receive $14,339 in federal funding to recruit and retain staff. This federal grant comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program.

"Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities," said Senator Stabenow. "These new resources will help the Sherman Township Fire Department make sure there is always someone there to answer the call in an emergency."

"Now more than ever, fire departments in Michigan need the resources to not only recruit first responders who will keep our communities safe, but also maintain current staff," said Senator Peters, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. "I am pleased that this federal grant will help ensure that the Sherman Township Fire Department can continue carrying out its mission through this unprecedented public health crisis."

Eligible fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations in Michigan and across the country can apply Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program grants.
