Schneider Statement on Israel-UAE Deal

Statement

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement in response to news of deal to normalize ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates:

"The outlined agreement announced today between Israel and the UAE should give us all hope for real progress towards the regional peace for which we pray. When fully implemented, this deal would be truly historic and hopefully add to the precedent set by Egypt and Jordan, and a harbinger of better things to come.

"I ultimately look to the day when Israel has peace with all her neighbors, including the Palestinians. I also hope the Palestinians and Israelis will soon return to the negotiating table to chart a path to a permanent two state solution, the Jewish, Democratic state of Israel, living in peace, security and prosperity beside a sovereign, demilitarized Palestinian state.

"My hope at this moment, is that today's breakthrough is another brick in the foundation of what will someday be a true and lasting peace, sustainable for generations to come. The US has long had an important role in helping our most important ally in the region, Israel, pursue peace, and must continue giving all sides the space and confidence to make difficult choices to achieve a true and lasting peace."
