Blunt Statement on Fifth and Final Report in The Senate Intelligence Committee's Bipartisan Russia Investigation

Statement

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement today on the committee's fifth and final report in its bipartisan Russia investigation:

"I said from the outset of this investigation that our committee would talk to everyone who needed to be talked to and look at everything that needed to be looked at to reach a conclusion. Over the past three years, that is exactly what we have done. Working in a bipartisan way, we have interviewed more than 200 witnesses and reviewed more than one million pages of documents.

"This report confirms that President Trump did not collude with Russia, despite that country's clear, concerted effort to gain influence over the 2016 election. Based on the findings of our investigation, and recent warnings from the intelligence community, there should be no doubt in the mind of every American that Russia, China, and Iran are continuing their efforts to interfere in our elections and undermine our democracy.

"We are much better prepared today than we were in 2016. Congress has provided more than $1.2 billion in election security funding. Federal agencies are working with state and local election officials to share information on potential threats. And the Trump administration is using the tools it has available to hold bad actors accountable.

"As a member of the Intelligence Committee and Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, I will continue working to ensure the officials who are responsible for the day-to-day work of election administration have the federal support and resources they need to run safe, secure, and accessible elections. It is also up to every American voter to take the findings and the recommendations of this report seriously and be vigilant against the threat of misinformation designed to sow division and create distrust in our institutions."
