Manchin, Capito Announce Funding for Population Health Support System in West Virginia

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced a $390,000 grant for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) to support a premier health-related telephone survey system on the impact of population health in West Virginia. This funding was made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"With the highest rate of at-risk patients, West Virginians need to be accurately recorded for chronic diseases and health related behaviors so we can receive the best health related programs and assistance for our people. The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) will help West Virginians receive that assistance, and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this system for West Virginians," said Senator Manchin.

"Supporting programs such as this is an important step towards improving the health of all West Virginians," said Senator Capito. "The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), which this grant funding would support, is a quality system that would help collect data on conditions like obesity, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. We know West Virginians are at higher risk to contract these diseases, making it crucial that we take the steps now to protect the people of our state in the future."
