Issue Position: Inclusivity

Issue Position

No Hoosier should be subjected to discrimination because of who they are or who they love. Yet Indiana civil rights laws are not comprehensive and fail to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination. We also passed a hate crimes law in 2019 that fails to do what a hate crimes law should do -- protect minority groups against bias. Our law is not inclusive and does not enumerate all protected classes. This needs to change. As long as people can be fired, denied housing, or denied service at a store because of who they are or who they love, Indiana will fail to live up to its ideals of true hospitality and respect and some Hoosiers will continue to have fewer civil rights than others.
