Issue Position: Wildfire Safety

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Infrastructure

The Austin metropolitan area has the fifth highest risk of wildfire in the nation, with the majority of that risk in western Travis County. The natural vegetation of Central Texas combined with our landscape-- like rolling hills and the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve-- create conditions that make it difficult to fight a wildfire and difficult to evacuate if needed. We need to give our cities and counties every possible tool to mitigate risk and prevent these devastating natural disasters, while also providing education to residents about wildfire safety for their homes and families. I will advocate for a regional approach to this issue that keeps us prepared and safe.
