Congressman Gonzalez Statement on ICE Decision to Rescind Rule on Deportation of International Students

Statement

Date: July 14, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement following the decision of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to rescind a rule that would have required international students to transfer or leave the country if their schools held classes entirely online because of the pandemic:

"While the developments that ICE will rescind its recent rule to deport international students is welcome news, the Trump administration is still pursuing openly punitive and xenophobic policies. We celebrate the small victories, but there is still much work to be done. I look forward to working with an administration that values students, immigrants and minorities in the, hopefully, near future."
