Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) applauded the House Appropriations' Committee inclusion of several of his priorities related to military diversity and funding for United Service Organizations (USO) and humanitarian demining under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Defense Appropriations Act. Rep. Cisneros led letters advocating for all three issues.

"Our defense funding bill should address the challenges our servicemembers and their families face every day," said Rep. Cisneros. "Following my letters to the Defense Subcommittee, I'm grateful the House Appropriations Committee passed provisions to promote diversity in our military, ensure the USO has the resources it needs to help military families, and support humanitarian demining technology. Our men and women in uniform put their lives on the line for our country, and it's important that Congress provides them with the support and resources they need."

Rep. Cisneros led a letter requesting report language in the FY 2021 Defense Appropriations Act that would support robust outreach efforts to promote diversity among the ranks of our nation's military officers. The letter was signed by 38 members.

Rep. Cisneros led a bipartisan letter requesting support for a modest increase for the United Service Organizations (USOs) in FY 2021 to support the USO's current global operations and allow the organization to continue to support our nation's servicemembers and their families. The letter was signed by 18 members.

Rep. Cisneros led a letter expressing support for the Department of Defense Humanitarian Demining Research and Development (HD R&D) Program in the FY 2021 Department of Defense Appropriations Act. The HD R&D program is a critical component in our efforts to eliminate landmines that threaten civilians abroad while ensuring our soldiers have the latest and safest equipment at their disposal for military demining activities. The letter was signed by 34 members.
