Quigley Reacts to SCOTUS Decision on Trump Financial Records

Statement

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued a statement after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the consolidated cases of Trump v. Mazars and Trump v. Deutsche Bank, in which the Court asked the lower courts to further develop the record to assess the House's need for the President's financial records:

"Today's Supreme Court decision affirms once again that no one is above the law -- not even the President. While it may be some time before there is a final resolution to this case, this decision is a resounding rejection of the Trump argument that would have dangerously undermined the separation of powers and placed the President beyond the reach of Congress or the courts.

"One of Congress's most important roles is serving as a check on the executive branch. The Court has made it clear that this power remains as critical as ever. Rest assured, we will continue our efforts to hold President Trump accountable. Despite his administration's efforts to thwart Congressional oversight, I am confident that after a thorough review by the lower courts, we will be successful."
