Senator Perdue: Lawless Actions Must Stop

Statement

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) joined Georgia radio stations to address recent lawlessness in the City of Atlanta and encourage Georgians to follow safety protocols for combatting COVID-19.

Highlights:

Law & Order: "Law and order is necessary for a representative democracy. One of the reasons why we have the government that we have is to protect the citizens of America. Just over the weekend, 31 people were shot, and 5 were killed in Atlanta. This is a continuation of the anarchy we see in some of our Democrat-led cities. I fully support what the Governor has done to restore order and keep the people of Atlanta safe."

Surging Violence: "Over the July 4th weekend, 87 people were shot and 17 died in Chicago. Around Memorial Day, 80 people were shot and 21 died. In Seattle, we saw what happened in that lawless quarter where they expelled the police. We've got to shut down this lawlessness in our major cities."

Police Reform: "It's obvious the Democrats want a political issue more than a real solution. We're offering up real solutions about how to make the police force reflect the makeup of the community, de-escalation training is important, we want a national database so we can track people that are not doing the job they should be doing."

Safety Protocols: "Just in May and June, 7.5 million jobs have been brought back. This economy has a lot of resilience, but we have to follow the protocols that our essential workers and military have been using -- use masks, clean your hands, practice social distancing, and be mindful of the people around you -- if we follow all of those, we can continue reopening the economy."

Reaching Georgians: "Over the last four months, we've been reaching out to people in Georgia. That's been our primary focus as we all sheltered in place and combatted this virus. We've reached out to almost a million people through our constituent conference calls and listened to their needs. I'm encouraged because I hear stories of how people from all over the state are helping each other."
