Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) today mourned the passing of Congressman John Lewis, who was an influential leader during the civil rights movement. He served the Fifth District of Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 33 years.

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and colleague John Lewis. Throughout his entire life, John led with remarkable courage, constant conviction and unshakable strength. During the civil rights movement and far beyond, he fought tirelessly and even risked his own life to ensure liberty and justice for all. Our country has indeed been made better and our union made more perfect because of John's tireless devotion and significant contributions. He will be sorely missed."
