Lucas Statement on House Passage of Bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Date: July 21, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Today, Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement after the passage of H.R. 6395- the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2021 in the U.S. House of Representatives. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) provides critical authorities, policies and national security programs for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) that improve our nation's readiness, capability and military operations and authorizes funding for our Armed Force's military retirees, families, and personnel. This year marks the 60th consecutive year that Congress will fulfill its duty to pass a bipartisan defense bill.

"For 60 years, Congress has upheld its bipartisan commitment to provide for the common defense of our great nation. While this bill isn't perfect, it is one that ultimately continues to restore readiness and ensures that our Armed Forces can respond to threats around the world.

"As our foreign adversaries continue to show acts of aggression in both the Middle East and the waters of the South China Sea, it's vitally important we continue our investments of advanced defense systems and critical emerging technology to protect American families and the values we hold dear- both foreign and domestic. In the days ahead, I hope both chambers of Congress can come together to appropriately authorize and fund these critical programs and pass a bill that ensures our Armed Forces have the resources they need to protect our great nation. The safety of the American people is non-negotiable."
