Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, today applauded the inclusion of his bill, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Careers Act, in the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This AI Careers Act aims to improve AI education and AI workforce development. The NDAA is set to come to the House Floor in the coming weeks.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"This bill would direct the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), in coordination with relevant stakeholders, to develop classifications to categorize and describe AI-related work, identify gaps in the artificial intelligence workforce, and create a metric for measuring criteria and credentials for careers in artificial intelligence. By creating a standardized system and language for AI-related tasks and qualifications, we will be better equipped to meet the growing need for qualified employees in the AI field. AI has the power to transform the U.S. and global economy and education is key to maintain U.S. leadership and competitiveness. I am pleased with its inclusion in the FY21 NDAA."
