Pallone on Supreme Court's Decision Allowing Employers to Deny Coverage for Birth Control

Statement

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision in Little Sisters of the Poor Saints Peter and Paul Home v. Pennsylvania upholding the Trump Administration's rules allowing employers to deny health insurance coverage for birth control:

"I'm deeply disappointed by the Supreme Court's decision today that permits the Trump Administration to move forward with their harmful exemptions to the birth control coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act.

"As a result of this decision, virtually any employer can now decide whether their employees have birth control coverage. According to the Trump Administration's own estimates, tens of thousands of American women will lose contraceptive coverage due to these regulations. Unfortunately, this decision is contrary to the intent of the statute and only adds to the Trump Administration's efforts to sabotage and repeal the Affordable Care Act and represents yet another attack on women's health.

"While this is undoubtedly a setback, we will not stop fighting to ensure everyone has access to comprehensive, affordable health care that includes birth control coverage."
