Date: July 10, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) attended a meeting with Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, Army General James C. McConville, members of the League of United Latin American Citizens, and Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29). They discussed how to increase diversity and inclusion in the Army and the murder of Specialist Vanessa Guillen.

"As a Latino Navy Veteran, diversity in our Armed Forces has always been one of my top priorities. Our military, especially our military leadership, should reflect the diversity of our nation. I was grateful to be joined by LULAC and Rep. Garcia to talk to the Army Secretary McCarthy and General McConville about how we can increase diversity in the Army," said Rep. Cisneros. "I also want to thank Sec. McCarthy for his commitment to creating an independent panel that will look into the command climate and culture. I share the concern and heartbreak of our country over the murder of SPC. Vanessa Guillen. We must take the necessary steps to ensure her family gets justice and enact change so that every servicemember is treated with dignity and respect."
